Onigiri was released on Frb 6th, 2014 in Japan. Recently, the english version of the game was released on the Xbox One and PS4, and it is free to play. It's an action based RPG where you can control you character in real time battles as you attack and dodge. The game is enriched with tons of Japanese lore and a fantasy land reminiscent of ancient Japan.

Yesterday, I created my account to see how the game faired. I liked the visuals, even though they are a little outdated. The character deisgns are very anime looking. They are cute and colorful. I could probably spent hours creating characters if there was more options to choose from for your starting character. My character, Princess-Momo, is a daring assassin/archer.

My eyes were eager to see what was in store for me as I ventured into a new world to explored. Within minutes, the game has you fighting a "practice boss," a five headed, fire breathing dragon! I defeated it quickly and gained my first level. As you level, you gain points to add to stats like Power, Mind, Wisdom, Vitality, and Dexterity which govern other stats like crits, max hp, ect... as well as which kind of weapons your character is proficient with.

There is plenty of places to explore and the landscape is nicely designed. There are quests to find, instant dungeons to explore, vast "field" areas to cross with random events and bosses that spawn as you travel. All and all, I had fun while I played until I started to notice something and it is something that could make or break this game for many people.., the lag.

As I said, I really like what I played, but the lag on the english severs is absoulutely terrible at times. It happens frequently, is very distruptive, and usually results in your character being killed. With only a couple choices for an MMORPG on the Xbox One, if they could fix this issue, then I am sure this game could do great in Western cultures. I see no other problems with Onigiri at this time and I would suggest it to MMORPG fans.
